The most beautiful route — from the Swiss village of Poschiavo to the renowned resort of St. Moritz — offers unique thrills, with magnificent landscapes gliding past as you peer out of the trains’ large panoramic windows. The train climbs the mountains, winding along steep banks until it reaches the slopes of the majestic 4000-meter Piz Bernina, making this the highest Alpine railway in Europe.

Two routes stand out: the Sentiero Valtellina and the Via dei Terrazzamenti. The former runs along the entire valley plain from east to west, from Bormio to Colico; the latter winds along the Rhaetian side from Tirano to Morbegno, among centuries-old vineyards clinging to the slopes. You’ll be spoiled for choice for your cycling holiday.
